Come to us at Black Cat Guest Ranch, located near Brule, Alberta; or we can come to your location anywhere in Alberta.  Operating seasonally.  

Climbing Setup and Safety: Ideal for those who are heading outdoors after climbing gym training.  Finding safe anchors, understanding forces, ascending and descending, what can go wrong, re-directs, equipment, and more.  Don't be a statistic, be prepared.

CTS Forestry, Wildlife, Agriculture: These are high school level "for credit" courses.  With a degree in Forest Science and another in Botanical Science we have the experience and training to offer knowledgeable and fun courses meeting Alberta Education's student outcomes.  Try one course or mix several courses and make a long weekend of it.

Flatwater Canoeing: Certification through Paddle Canada, these courses can be of varying length depending on how in-depth you want to get, one to three days.
 

Map, Compass and GPS: An intense course on map, compass and GPS, with an emphasis on NTS maps, UTM grids, route finding, true vs. magnetic North, and GPS application.

Mountain Rope Rescue: Introductory courses of one day through two week training events, the choice is yours.  Low angle, steep angle, vertical rescue, patient care, and more.

Orienteering Courses: A fun way to learn map and compass or map compass and GPS skills.  Practical training will be provided before you and your group are sent out in the woods to collect points of interest.  To increase the challenge turn your orienteering course into an adventure race.

TDG and/ or WHMIS: If you're looking for work these courses could be very useful and look great on your résumé.  Try our approach to teaching these courses.  Make yourself more employable.

 

Single Rope Technique (SRT): A must have skill for climbers, cavers, scramblers, and rescuers.  SRT is necessary for many small party or self rescues in vertical environments.

Standard First Aid: St. John Ambulance certification in standard first aid.  Did you know that high school students can obtain 1 CTS credit fot this course?

Wilderness First Aid: A 20-25 hour, hands-on, scenario driven, outdoor based course.  Standard first aid is a pre-requisite for this course.  16 hours standard, plus 24 hours wilderness = 40 hours of first aid.

Wilderness First Responder: An 80 hour hands on, scenario and classroom learning based course.  The course is taught in conjunction with an EMT-A, using the Outdoor Emergency Care textbook.

Wilderness Survival: Courses of varying length and intensity.  These are generally hands-on courses emphasizing fire lighting, route finding, problem solving, awareness, first aid, shelters, and more. 

Other: Partnerships with other providers allow us to also offer, Ethical Trapping Certification, Log Building, Horsemanship, Ground Disturbance, and H2S Alive.
